Life in an RV

Life in an RV

How it got started....

Life in an RV, for my husband, Bob and I, began approximately a year and a half ago. My husband is an electrician who travels extensively for work and is gone for extended periods of time. While he made excellent money in his trade, we found ourselves falling further and further behind, financially. Why? You ask. Well, sad but true, when you basically pay for 2 households, money just doesn't go very far. We were in a 3 bedroom house and I found myself questioning why. Why did we need all that when Bob was gone all week and I was there by myself. I started researching how much RV parks cost monthly and the answer to our financial woes was as plain as the nose on my face...buy an RV and live in it for a few years so we could save money...so we did! We started out with a 1969 (my birth year) 17-foot travel trailer that didn't have air conditioning, a working oven or a working propane furnace. It was in great shape, but so small you had to go outside to change your mind. We were offered this beauty...a 1979 21-foot fifth wheel for $800 and we pounced on the opportunity to buy it. We are still cramped with me, Bob, 2 big dogs: Puppa and Sasha and a mouthy Super Dave the Girl Cat and our outside cat that was left here when residents moved on: Smokey Lonesome.
I have decided to chronical my life here in this RV and embark on a world tour of sorts to cook and eat my way around the world...52 countries, 52 weeks...Around the World in an RV. I hope you enjoy my adventures in RV living, because I'm actually having the time of my life!

And how it goes on...

Here is the RV not quite a year later...complete with my recycled container garden. I have observed people here in the park throw away some bizarre stuff, but what really chapped my hide were the plastic buckets that were pitched into the dumpster. I grabbed all I could find and Bob drilled holes in them and after a thorough washing, they are now home to various fruits, vegetables and flowers. Basically, if I can put dirt in it, I figure it will grow a plant, so there you have it...my recycled container garden...which is growing by leaps and bounds, I might add!
I will include pages in this blog regarding original recipes that I have created as well as my world cuisine. I think it's important to get the message out that you can cook anything in an RV that you can cook in a regular kitchen, you just have to be inventive. When I dump my trash, I have the opportunity to see what sort of diets people have in this park and I ask myself, "Why?" I hope that if I can just reach one person to persuade them to partake of healthier eating habits, it's all been worth it. If I entertain people along the way...well, that's an extra added bonus. As you read along, you will find that I appreciate a good sense of humor and that's why I decided to leave the previous website that I was blogging on and come here: a very small percentage of the people there were spiteful and hateful and there's enough of that in the world, so I decided to "trip on down the road" elsewhere! And, I'm glad you decided to come along for the ride...so grab a beer, kick back and enjoy because I'm at the wheel!
