Thai cuisine is blends four tastes: sweet, spicy, sour and salty. Most dishes try to combine most, if not all, of these tastes.
One of the most distinctive customs is the wai-showing greeting, farewell or acknowledgement-it generally involves a prayer-like gesture with the hands and a bow of the head. It is considered rude to touch someone on the head. It's also considered rude to step on a Thai coin because the King's head appears on coins. It is customary to remove your shoes before entering someone's house and you shouldn't step on the threshold.
Thai New Year (Songkran) is observed from April 13-15 each year. The main religion in Thailand is Buddhism. The capital is Bangkok and it has been said that there are more eating establishments per square mile in Bangkok than anywhere else on earth.
